A gorgeous pair of antique wood and leather Sabots or clogs worn by a French child.
Traditional country footware in Normandy for centuries past, also used in traditional folk dancing, these clogs probably date from the early 1900s. There is a delightful hand carved flower at the toe of each shoe. They show delightlful delicate wear and patina from use and display beautifully.
They are hand made, you can see the nails which attach the leather to the wooden soles in the traditional style. The soles were varnished to protect against moisture, and show wear from use, as does the leather, though it remains in good condition.
They would have been firmly laced onto the foot. They are marked size 13 in European sizes and measure 6" long.
