This 1930s blue rose design is a French classic and it is unusual to find a pair in such good condition. For absolute essentials, matches and salk, they would have been in constant use in a French kitchen of yester year. They are designed to be wall mounted but sit happily on a counter of shelf.
 
The Salt (Sel) box is larger and has the content's name stencilled on the front, the lid raises on a metal nail style hinge to allow easy access to the contents. It has a small chip on the rear underside, on one side the pin has been changed, I imagine because the original wore out. It measures 7.5" by just over 6" 
 
The matches box has a textured striker ridges in the same ceramic for the old fashioned non-safety matches to be struck. It has the same system for the lid It measures 5" by 5.5"
