A very typical French scene of lakeside cottages in front of a winding earth lane leading to the lake surrounded by trees.
It is painted in th early morning, the clear light and pinkish clouds create a sense of tranquility as the lady, in old time dress, looks out across the lake.
Light is used well, and the attention to detail, markedly for me on the textures in the tree trunks in the foreground, as the sun catches the ripples on the lake and as the rising sun illuminates the trees on the opposite bank.
The freshness of the green and the shade of the young leaves on the right hand tree suggest it is early summer.
It is in the style of the Barbizon School in France, inspired by Constable, influenced by Carot.
The wooden stretchers and colour of the canvas behind confirm the painting has some age. All this leads me to believe it is a skillful artist's copy from the early 20th century, in the older style, but still a beautiful work of art in its own right.
The painting has some framing marks, which could probably be lessened or removed and slight wear to the canvas on the corners from age.
It is a larger canvas and measures 21.5" by 18" shipping is a little higher for this picture because of the size, the price has been reduced to off set this. If it can be shipped more econimically then I will refund the difference. For a safe delivery, shipping cannot be combined with anything other than another painting or paper ephemera
