A home made family medical or first aid tin, made from a large biscuit tin and painted white with a red cross. It has been very well used in the home and probably dates from the 1940s - 1950s 
 
The paintwork is gloriously worn and patinated, with rusting where the painted areas have worn, a characterful patina which can only be achieved from use and the passage of time. 
 
Inside is painted too and it smells of antiseptic!
 
The tin measures 9" by 8.5" by 4.5"
