A gorgeously blue green enamelled round scalloped edged spitoon from France in cast iron. The round spittoons are hard to find and this colourway is particularly attractive.
Gloriously patinated, it shows many desirable signs of wear and age, oxidisation, chippiness and at one time it appears to have been whitewashed! Traces are still left. There is one little foot missing, which doesn't effect stability.
It displays beautifully, used as a base for a vintage stack, and is particularly attractive used for candles.
Spittoons were commonplace in cafes and bars in France in the 18th to early 19th century, filled with sand, hence the increased patination inside.
This one is marked Godin on the base, Godin are a reputed French company, founded in 1840, most famous for their stylish and high quality enamel stoves, still used in French homes today, including mine!
It measures 8" in diameter and 2.5" deep. Please note this is a heavy item and this will be reflected in the shipping which is by weight.
