This oil on canvas dating from the mid to second half of the 1800s is an absolute 'coup de coeur'. 
 
Its age shows in the crackling of the canvas, adding another layer of texture to the painting and can be seen from the stretchers and the edges.
 
The individual lilac flowers are beautifullt captured in the blend of shades seen in nature. The pot adds interest and warmth as the flowers are captured part arranged in a beautifully judged still life. The signature in the bottom left is difficult to decypher, in true artistic style.
