A magnificent ironstone compote dating from around 1820s, it is a very early piece of transferware, chinoiserie was a popular early theme.

As an early piece, it has all over age crazing and a honey colour staining on the bowl as well as several hairline cracks from the rim.

As this is an early bowl the transfers are slightly blurred giving it an appearance of flow blue inside the bowl. The stamp on the base is a little blurred too. The inside of the bowl depicts a lady and man with a pagoda style building in the background,  there are two dragons, a crane and some script, with more cranes around the outside of the bowl.

The bowl is deep, about three inches, and makes a lovely fruit bowl. or for displaying a collection. The pedastal is very stable, altogether the compote stands 5.5" tall and 10" in diameter.
