In the 19th and early 20th century the large stores in Paris (and other major chic cities) produced these carry handles, Madame's purchases would be packaged up and tied with string then these handles clipped on to make it easier to carry. 
 
Made of thick cardboard, they are printed with the name of the shop, I also have a few plain ones which would make a lovely base for a project to add your or your business's name. They make a beautiful display item and photography prop.
 
It's quite amazing that these small reminders of a time past have survived, they were saved by a lady from Normandy to remind her of her shopping trips to Paris.
