A classic Victorian style tile, designed to be used  as a stand to protect the table. It has a super design od a ruined gothic style arch with storks around and perching on it. 
 
It has a great history, it is heavily patinated from use, having the hot coffee pot resting on it for many years.
 
It is marked Gien on the base and may have been originally in a wooden stand, ot freestanding, both were usual.
 
There is one old chip in the corner and some wear to the edges.
 
It is 8" square
