A rare and collectible tall water pitcher by Sarreguemines in the pattern 'Canards' or ducks. In addition to the ducks it has some lovely herons fishing in the pond. It is beautifuly decorated with a different design on both sides and a very ornate handle.
This violet / purple design is the most hard to find colourway, in addition to the size, it is 11" tall, this makes this wonderful piece a marvellous Parisian find. I can imagine it in the summer with some huge sunflowers or gladioli. This is the only example of this design in this model I have seen.
The water pitcher, designed to bring hot water for washing to Madame's boudoir, dates from 1895 and is in overall good condition with the exception of a small crack on the side of the rim, pictured, and some slight facing on the lip of the pitcher from many years of use. It remains struvturally sound and still useable after well over 100 years of use.
